The Republican National Guard has arrested 584 people, most of them for drunk driving, seized 40 firearms and several doses of drugs, and has identified more than 7,000 traffic violations in the past week.
In a statement released on Saturday, the GNR said it arrested 584 people between August 2 and 8, 289 of whom were under the influence of alcohol, 112 for driving without a license, 32 for drug trafficking, 18 for theft and robbery, 13 for illegal possession of weapons and prohibited weapons.
Nine people were also arrested for domestic violence, GNR said.
Among the seizures, the most notable were about six thousand doses of cocaine, about 1,200 doses of heroin, more than seven thousand doses of hashish, more than 100 doses of limonene and about 100 doses of MDMA.
The PNP also confiscated 40 firearms, 38 bladed or prohibited weapons, 207 ammunition, 23 vehicles and more than 112 thousand euros.
In the area of road traffic, 7,123 violations were identified, of which 2,940 were for speeding, 737 for failure to have a mandatory periodic technical inspection, 609 for driving with a blood alcohol level higher than the legal limit, 196 for improper use of a mobile phone while driving, and 202 for the absence or improper use of a seat belt and/or child restraint system.
The activities of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate throughout the country are aimed not only at preventing and combating crime and road accidents, but also at supervising various administrative offenses.
