“Tragic” start gives way to epic “remontada” of Penafiel at home to Oliveirense

This Saturday, Penafiel beat Oliveirense 4-3 in the first round of the II Football League after overturning a three-goal deficit after nine minutes marked by successive errors by goalkeeper Manuel Baldé.

The visitors took the match to goals from Lucao in the third minute, Ze Manuel in the sixth and Andre Santos in the ninth, but it was striker Ze Leite who took centre stage for the hosts against his former club, scoring in the 12th minute and 71st, joining goals from Gabriel Barbosa from the penalty spot at 18 and Miguel Maga at 55.

Oliveirense’s first goal came early, in the third minute, from a corner from Federico Namora, in which Manuel Balde missed and allowed the ball to bounce into the penalty area, at the mercy of Lucao, who immediately fired into the back of the net.

In a frantic start to the game, the Guinean goalkeeper failed to react to his first mistake and just three minutes later, under intense pressure from Oliveira de Azeméis’s side, he allowed Ze Manuel to steal the ball from him and score for 2-0.

After a clear “off day” for the player, who again struggled with his footwork and delivered the ball poorly, André Santos regained possession from medium range and took advantage of the Penafidelense goalkeeper’s advance, replaced by a technical option with a little more than then, after the ninth minute, scoring a great goal.

From that moment on, the match changed direction completely due to the reaction of the home team and the apparent relaxation of the outsiders: Ze Leite reduced the score to 12 when Joao Silva “beat” and took the support line from the right and struck a precise cross for an extreme touch.

In the 18th minute, after a precise tackle by Frederico Namora on Gabriel Barbosa in the penalty area, Penafiel’s own striker converted the penalty immediately awarded by Thiago Martins, deceiving goalkeeper Nuno Macedo and leaving the “rubro-negros” in the goal.

Buoyed by the strong support of the crowd, the team led by Hélder Cristóvão achieved the equalising goal in the 10th minute of the second half when Zé Leite isolated himself on the right and sent a low cross towards Miguel Maga, who scored without any major difficulties.

The inevitable 4-3 final to complete the turnaround came courtesy of Ze Leite, who took on the role of ‘hero’ with two goals and an assist, the last goal on 71, after turning from the right flank to the centre, where he again had too much space to dribble and shoot on goal.

The game will take place at the Municipal Stadium “25 de Abril” in Penafiel.
