Moreirense travelled to Algarve to beat Farense 2-1 in the best possible start to the league campaign, with Maracas and Azue scoring for the visitors and Alex Bermejo’s reinforcement cutting down on Algarve’s goal.
Minho’s team approached the match more consciously and opened the scoring in the 6th minute thanks to central defender Maracas, who headed the ball into the net from a free kick right into the penalty area. Claudio Falcao shot into the side net in the 23rd minute in one of the few dangerous moves by the home team in the first half.
In the second half, the visitors hit the crossbar in the 58th minute, but failed six minutes later after Tavares was sent off for accumulating yellow cards. The following minute, Farense equalized through Alex Bermejo after a cross from Rivaldo. Having been reduced to ten, Moreirense won the game through Asue in the 79th minute.
