117 Teens Detained in Venezuela Post-Election Crackdown

The Venezuelan organization Forum Penal (FP) reported on Monday that 117 teenagers have been jailed as a result of the repression following the presidential elections that saw Nicolás Maduro declared re-elected for a third term but whose results are rejected by the opposition.

In a published report, the civil society organization says it has already identified 1,305 of the 2,229 people detained by local authorities in various regions of the country, including “117 adolescents between the ages of 15 and 17,” as well as up to 14 indigenous people, 16 disabled people and 172 women.

In a note published in X, FP reports that the capital district (Caracas) has registered 230 confirmed arrests, followed by the states of Carabobo (197) and Anzoategui (115).
