Man arrested in Brazil for killing Frenchman of Portuguese descent in Lisbon

The man who killed Portuguese-Frenchman Serge Albert, who was killed in June 2019 in the house where he lived in Lisbon and left wrapped in blankets in a storeroom, has been arrested in Brazil and will be tried in that country for murder, concealment of a body and theft.

The killer was a Brazilian from the state of Rio Grande do Norte who fled to his home country after the crime and with whom the victim had a romantic relationship. His identity was established during the investigation by the judicial police, but when he was caught, the Brazilian justice system refused to extradite him. According to the decision of federal judge Lianna Oliveira, “the competence of the Brazilian justice system and, in particular, the Federal Court to prosecute and condemn criminal acts must be recognized.”

According to the prosecution, Serge Albert’s body was found only a month after he was reported missing. The killer made off with the victim’s Rolex watch and luxury suitcases, which he sold for money, and for weeks updated the Portuguese-French social media accounts to create the illusion that he was alive. He faces 30 years in prison.
