The Faro court has ordered the preventive detention of two men suspected of attempted murder, kidnapping and robbery, crimes committed between June and August in Faro, the Ministry of State (MP) announced on Wednesday.
In a statement published on the website of the Faro District Prosecutor’s Office, the deputy said that the men, aged 22 and 27, had been involved in several episodes of violence against people they knew during that period.
In early June, in Faro, a 27-year-old detainee “fired two shots from a pistol into the foot” of a victim, and a few days later, both detainees, together with another person, kidnapped another victim.
“At the same time, the 27-year-old detainee, armed with a pistol, and the 22-year-old detainee with a knife ordered the victim to hand over his clothes, mobile phones and bank card,” the report says. The note notes that the victim managed to escape, but he was wounded in the thigh.
In another incident in August in Faro, the oldest of the detainees and another man approached a 22-year-old detainee, “beat him with feet and stones, and then took the 200 euros he was carrying and the electricity for his scooter,” the note said.
Also on an August night in Faro, a 22-year-old detainee stabbed a man in the stomach and chest, found him the next day and returned “to beat him on the head, face and limbs.”
Early the next morning, police approached him, the younger suspect found the 27-year-old detainee and stabbed him several times in the chest and stomach, the deputy adds.
The men were arrested on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by the Director of the Department of Investigation and Criminal Affairs (DIAP) of the Faro district.
The suspects were remanded in custody at the request of the duty prosecutor, and the investigation is being carried out by the judicial police.
