Fabio Cardoso leaves Porto on loan to Al Ain

Footballer Fabio Cardoso has an agreement in principle to go to Al Ain on loan from Porto, which plays in the Portuguese First League, the United Arab Emirates club, which became the Asian champion in the 2023/24 season, announced this Wednesday.

“Al Ain have reached a preliminary agreement to sign Fabio Cardoso from Porto on a one-year loan. The player is expected to arrive in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday to undergo a medical and complete the signing procedures,” they said, Zaim reported in a statement.

Fabio Cardoso, 30, has recorded four goals and two assists in 78 appearances for Porto, where he arrived in 2021/22 from Santa Clara, winning a league title, three Portuguese Cups and a League Cup.

After completing his training at Benfica, the central defender represented the Red B team of the II League, as well as then-original divisionist Paços de Ferreira (2015-2016), on loan from the Eagles, Vitoria de Setúbal (2016/17) and Santa Clara (2018-2021), in between stints with Scottish Rangers (2017/18).

Fabio Cardoso is linked to Porto for two more seasons until June 2026 but is not yet available under coach Vitor Bruno for the 2024/25 season and is set to join Al Ain, the UAE’s record champions (14), who finished third in the domestic league and won the Asian Champions League last season.
