CP has blocked four trains out of 251 scheduled until 08:00 a.m. following a strike by company workers that ended Thursday but whose effects are still being felt this Friday, according to a balance sheet sent to Lusa.
Of the 251 trains scheduled from 00:00 to 08:00, 247 were sent and 4 were canceled (1.6%).
CP – Comboios de Portugal indicates that 72 regional and interregional trains were scheduled and only one was delayed.
In terms of urban areas, 115 were planned in Lisbon, 3 suppressed and 112 carried out.
All planned city trains to Porto (52) and long distance (12) have been completed.
This Friday, in statements to Lusa, António Domingues of the National Union of Portuguese Railway Drivers (SMAQ) said the effects of the strike, which ended on Thursday, would be residual.
“According to our estimates, 98% of the operation will be carried out. It still has consequences due to drivers who are forced to spend the night in other places. Tomorrow [sábado], the historic machinists are on strike until the 21st, which will not affect passenger trains. Historic trains have residual circulation,” he said.
According to the trade unionist, the reason for the strike is the company’s lack of response to proposals for wage increases.
António Dominguez also said that there was no progress in negotiations with the company.
On Wednesday, the Union of Public Administration Workers (Sintap) and the National Union of Railway Workers (Sinafe) announced a strike at CP — Comboios de Portugal on 27 February and 1 March.
“Unions UGT, Sinafe and Sintap are on strike due to the termination of negotiations in CP and IP,” they said in a communiqué.
Thus, the CP workers will strike for the provision of “any work under the following conditions” on February 27 and March 1 “during the entire working period.”
On Tuesday, these unions announced a strike at the Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) on 28 February and 2 March.
It is a “stalemate” in wage negotiations with IP and CP management, the unions said in a statement.
