The Boavista SAD administration on Friday categorically rejected the conviction for sexual harassment handed down by the president of the First League club, Vitor Murta, against an employee of the “checkered” professional football management company.
“The events in question seriously tarnish the image of Boavista, an institution with a long history of respect, dedication to sport and commitment to society. The violations reported are extremely serious and an affront to human dignity and cannot under any circumstances be tolerated or relativized,” the management, led by Senegalese Fary Faye, said in a statement published on the Panthers’ official website.
According to the decision published this Friday by the Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Vítor Murta, who currently leads the Bessa club, was punished with a six-month suspension and a fine of 2,448 euros for “discriminatory behavior” following a disciplinary process that began on October 3, 2023, when he was still in charge of SAD do Boavista.
“Faced with this situation, Boavista SAD will take the necessary measures, acting with the firmness that the gravity of the facts requires, and expects everyone, without exception, to fully assume their responsibilities. The new board of directors reaffirms its unwavering commitment to defending the honor and integrity of this institution, always maintaining the values of ethics and respect for all as a priority,” concluded the structure headed by Fari Fay, Vitor Murta’s successor as president of SAD since May.
The violations in question are Article 137 of the Disciplinary Regulations of the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP), which punishes “directors who commit conduct that is degrading to human dignity based on race, colour, language, religion, ethnic origin, gender or sexual orientation.”
“During the period in which the injured party worked at the Boavista SAD, namely from September 2019 to mid-November 2022, the defendant, namely through rude expressions and innuendos, used inconvenient behavior that bothered the injured party during the facts, while still quite young,” explained the CD in a decision that can be appealed to the FPF Justice Council or the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
