Benfiquista Fredrik Orsnes named Champions Player of the Week

Benfica’s Norwegian international Fredrik Orsnes has been named UEFA Champions League Player of the Week after the Eagles beat Club Brugge 2-0 in the first leg of the round of 16, UEFA announced this Friday.

Orsnes, who was selected by manager Roger Schmidt in the 90th minute of Wednesday’s game in Belgium, which Benfica won thanks to goals from Joao Mario’s penalty kick in the 50th minute and David Neres in the 88th minute, has already been named man of the match.

The 27-year-old midfielder, signed at the start of the season from Feyenoord for €13m, has been a key player in Benfica’s strategy, playing 26 games, 19 of them as a starter and scoring a goal.

According to figures released by UEFA, Orsnes covered more than 13 kilometers during the meeting in Brugge and had a pass rate of 72%.

Orsnes entered the Champions Player of the Week trophy debate this week, which began a 16-game first round with the Norwegian defeating France’s Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich), Germany’s Karim Adeyemi (Borussia Dortmund) and Portugal’s Rafael Leau (Milan “).

Rafael Leao was part of Italy’s 1-0 win at home against Tottenham, while Adeyemi and Coman scored in Borussia’s triumphs at home against Chelsea and Bayern away at Paris Saint-Germain, also both scoring 1:0. .
