After a second stage marked by strong winds and two falls in the final 24km, Wout van Aert (Visma) left Ourem as the leader of the Tour of Spain by bike on Sunday. The Belgian was second in the race (beating Alpesin’s Caden Groves in the sprint) and took advantage of the bonuses to move up to first overall. João Almeida (Emirates) arrived with the peloton and remains 10th overall, 22 seconds behind the leader. Nelson Oliveira (Movistar) is 11th at 23 minutes, while Rui Costa (EF) is 75th at one minute.
Thousands of people watch the cyclists as they pass through the section between Cascais and Ourém, the second of three stages on Portuguese soil, a positive for the fan zone dedicated to João Almeida in his birthplace, Caldas da Rainha, and a negative for the bad behaviour of the public in Alto da Batalha, which led to the fall of Matias Vacek (Lidl Trek), who dropped from 2nd to 3rd place in the overall standings. Two kilometres to the finish, another descent.
