Van Aert takes victory in the third stage of the Vuelta and Aberasturi finishes third

Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) has won the third stage of the Vuelta a España disputed between Lousa and Castelo Branco, 191.2 kilometers, so it has strengthened the leadership.

The stage victory was decided in a sprint and Van Aert has been the best. Kaden Groves (Alpecin Deceuninck) was second and the Vitorian Jon Aberasturi (Euskaltel Euskadi), third.

The breakaway of the day was made up of Luis Ángel Maté and Xabier Isasa, from Euskaltel Euskadi, together with Ibon Ruiz and Unai Iribar, from Kern PharmaThe peloton had the breakaway under control. The one who has tried the most has been Isasawho has been left alone at the head of the race with 38 kilometers to go for the conclusion of the stage, but 20 kilometers from the finish he was swallowed up by the peloton.

The overall standings have not undergone any significant changes. Van Aert’s 10-second bonus allowed him to move 13 seconds ahead of American Brandon McNulty (UAE Emirates)and to Czech Mathias Vacek at 15.
