Miguel Albuquerque, president of the regional government of Madeira, praised the work of the authorities in extinguishing the fire that raged on the island for 11 days. “The decisions were the right ones,” he said at a press conference on Saturday.
Albuquerque met this Saturday to take stock of the situation surrounding the fire, which has already been brought under control and is in the process of being eliminated.
The fire that raged in Madeira for 11 days and covered an area of more than 5,045 hectares gave a respite to the professionals and media on the scene.
Despite criticism from the regional government, Albuquerque said “all that was decided was to think about preserving [as pessoas]and regrets that “professionals were offended on social networks.”
There are more 150 specialists to combat possible overexposure.
The President reminded that the temperature will remain high and the work cannot yet be considered complete.
The Faja das Galinhas families have not yet been relocated, but Albuquerque said work is underway to relocate them to another area of the parish, as the area is considered “highly dangerous.”
