The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) said in a statement that this week it carried out a surveillance operation called “Safe Sleep” aimed at local housing, which took place in the historic districts of the cities of Porto, Viana do Castelo. , Coimbra, Povoa do Varzim, Peso da Régua, Aljezur, Albufeira, Lisbon, Evora, Viseu, Covilhã, Viseu, Santarém and Vila Real.
According to the ASAE, the purpose of the operation was to verify “compliance with the specific legal regulations to which these infrastructures are associated” in order to guarantee the “health and safety” of users.
ASAE clarifies that 192 economic operators have been inspected and 10 local accommodation facilities have been suspended due to lack of safety and hygiene requirements.
This body indicates that 33 cases of administrative offenses were also initiated, the main of which are non-compliance with hygiene and safety requirements during operation, as well as the absence of a state register of local accommodation facilities, a book of complaints and an AL (Alojamento Local) sign.
