Basque language: Mikel Merinok Reala utzi eta Arsenalen jokatuko du
Real Sociedad have transferred Mikel Merino to Arsenalas officially confirmed by the Guipuzcoan club on Tuesday afternoon. The 28-year-old Navarrese midfielder has played for Real for six seasons, where he arrived in 2018; in total, he has been in the line-up for 242 official matches, and has scored 27 goals. The footballer from Pamplona leaves the txuri-urdin team as champion of the Copa del Rey, which he won in the 2019-20 season.
“He began to grow alongside the team, and his performance did not stop rising,” said Real Sociedad on its website, referring to Merino: “His personal successes were those of the txuri-urdin team, and during his time with Real Sociedad he has given us some great performances. He has been a key player in the achievements of the last five years. With the Navarrese in our midfield, we have experienced wonderful moments,” said Real Sociedad, referring to a player whom it describes as “an example of a footballer and teammate.”
“We have given him a lot, and he has given us the best of himself. Now, he faces another challenge, in which we wish him the best. We will be happy for him. This will always be your home, Mikel. Eskerrik asko,” concludes the San Sebastian club.
