Maximiliano Araujo was officially announced on Tuesday as a reinforcement for Sporting, becoming the third new face in Ruben Amorim’s squad for the 2024/25 season. The 24-year-old Uruguayan international was announced by the Alvalade club and has signed for five seasons, until June 2029, and is protected by an €80 million release clause.
After playing for Toluca, where he scored 3 goals and 5 assists in 39 matches in the 2023/24 season and a further 2 goals in 5 matches in the 2024/25 season, Maxi will now get his first taste of European football. An international for the Celeste, the left-footed player recently featured for Uruguay in the Copa America, where he scored 2 goals and 1 assist in a total of 6 games.
Maxi Araujo, who will now wear the number 20 shirt for the green and white team, was already under the command of Ruben Amorim on Tuesday and, barring unforeseen circumstances, could be an option for the classic match that will follow against Porto on Saturday, at 20:30, counting the 4th round of the championship.
