Since May, Paulo Machado has been trying to buy Tamoxifen for his 77-year-old mother, who underwent breast cancer surgery in October. On Tuesday, he received a response from Infarmed confirming that the drug was “out of stock for production reasons” and would not be restocked until October 30.
The information is also on the Infarmed website, which says she has been missing since July 20. “On May 19, they were gone. It’s a shame and unthinkable for my mother and thousands of patients,” Paulo said. CM.
The drug is needed to stop the cancer from recurring. “It’s an estrogen blocker in breast tumors. It works to prevent cells from growing and recurring,” he explains. CM Oncologist Jorge Espirito Santo, who considers it “incomprehensible that it is not available and that there is no other laboratory producing such a cheap drug.”
“There is no other reason than the commercial interest of those who produce, the price is so low that it probably does not justify production. This is unacceptable,” he said.
In response to Paulo Machado, Infarmed also reports: “The medicine is distributed in limited quantities, so we suggest that the pharmacy contact the Pharmoz laboratory.”
Paulo was puzzled by this proposal, but went to talk to the pharmacist. The doctor considered the suggestion to go to the laboratory “unbelievable.”
THAT CM asked Infarmed and received no answer. It should be noted that the drug was also out of stock in September 2023.
