Giokeres aims to break goalscoring record at 50

The highest record for accurate shots in the championship belongs to another significant foreigner in the history of Sporting – the Argentine Hector Yazalda, who in the 1973/74 season threw the ball into the opponent’s goal 46 times. At that time, he set a record for the best scorer in European leagues. Naturally, he won the Golden Boot – the trophy that recognizes the best scorer in the championships of the Old Continent. However, that season, the forward from the country of Pampas scored “only” four more goals in other competitions.

Giokeres’ goal is truly ambitious. Last season he was the league’s top scorer with 29 goals. To surpass Yazalde’s standards, he would have to average more than one goal per game. He is currently in a good position, having scored six goals in three league games, an average of two per game. If he were to maintain this record, he would reach the end of the championship with 68 (!) goals.

Last season, it took Diokeres eight matches to score his first six goals.

Konrad Harder, a 19-year-old Danish striker, is on the list of players being monitored by Sporting. Harder, a Denmark U21 international who plays for Nordsjælland and is left-footed, has scored two goals and made two assists in six games this season.
