According to the Judicial Police (PJ), the fire that broke out in Madeira on August 14 was caused by rockets fired at a camp in Serra de Agua.
The fireworks were not banned because there was no active orange alert to prevent it. There is already a defendant and, you know what? CMothers may be created.
However, this process does not allow for arrests to be made. The SP collected relevant statements, analyzed the circumstances and meteorology, and assessed a range of evidence that allowed it to identify the location and those responsible for the missile launch.
The investigation is ongoing.
The fire, which raged in the region for 13 days and was declared extinguished only on August 26, burned an area of 5,104.1 hectares. according to the European Forest Fire Information System (Copernicus).
As the fire raged, authorities ordered nearly 200 people to leave their homes as a precaution and set up community shelters, but many residents returned home.
Firefighting efforts were hampered by wind and high temperatures, but there were no reports of injuries or destruction of homes or important public infrastructure, according to the regional government, although some small-scale agricultural production and forested areas were damaged.
Several operators from Madeira, as well as firefighters from the Autonomous Region of the Azores, were mobilized to put out the fire. Two Canadair aircraft were also deployed.
This Thursday, the Madeira Government decided to reward 88 organisations for their participation in extinguishing the fire.
