Goodbye Tinder: Supermarket Dating Is Now a Trend in Spain

A visit to Mercadona supermarkets can no longer be limited to just shopping. In Spain, the supermarket seems to be replacing dating apps like Tinder. If you visit the shopping area between 7pm and 8pm, it seems that you can find love. It all started with a video posted on TikTok, which says that this is the best time for those trying to find their soulmate on the Mercadona shelves.

According to El PaisApparently, there is a list of codes and rules that you must follow if you go to the supermarket with the intention of falling in love. In addition to having to stick to the schedule – from 7pm to 8pm – you must put an upside-down pineapple in your cart and head to the wine section. If there is someone you like and they also have an upside-down pineapple in their cart, you must make the carts collide to start a conversation.

The products you choose reflect the type of relationship you are looking for: if you have chocolate or candy in your basket, it is because you want something more casual; if you prefer a serious relationship, you should have vegetables, preferably packaged.

According to the same source, there are also age restrictions: anyone between 19 and 25 should go to the frozen food section; if you are over 25, you should go to the fishmonger; those over 40 are advised to go to the wine section.

Mercadona has not yet commented on this new trend.
