Argentine international Nehuen Perez will join Porto on loan from Italian top-flight Udinese with an option to buy, becoming the Dragons’ fourth reinforcement for the 2024/25 season, both clubs announced on Friday.
“The agreement between the two clubs provides for the loan of the athlete for a total of 4.1 million euros and includes an option to purchase 90% of the player’s economic rights for a fixed amount of 13.3 million. Udinese will assume responsibility for this. The solidarity mechanism is linked to third parties and FC Porto states that this transfer did not involve any intermediary intervention,” the Dragons said in a statement.
In a note on its official website, Udinese said that buying the Porto player’s pass would become “mandatory if certain goals are achieved.”
“I am very happy to be here, I couldn’t wait for this moment. My goal is to win titles and bring joy to the fans. This is a leap in my career and I am ready to take this big step,” said Neuén Pérez, addressing the media with the “blue and white” emblem.
The 24-year-old centre-back returns to Portugal, where he made 26 appearances and one goal for Famalicao in 2019/20, on the first of three successive loans from Spanish club Atletico Madrid, where he joined the previous season from Argentino Juniors without ever making a first-team appearance.
This was followed by spells at Granada (2020/21) and Udinese, who would sign him permanently for the Colchoneros in the summer of 2022, in a partnership marked by four goals and one assist in 97 appearances with current Portuguese side Goncalo Esteves, Leonardo Buta, Domingos Quina and Vivaldo Semedo.
“First of all, he comes to strengthen the team in the sector that was needed. [O jogador] “This was something that was appreciated by the entire structure, the sports structure, the head coach and the scouting team. It was a joint effort that was successful and we are very pleased,” said Dragons President Andre Villas-Boas.
A two-time World Cup and two-time South American champion Argentina player, Neuén Pérez has started the Bianconeri’s first three competitive matches of the 2024/25 season and now joins midfielder Fabio Vieira, on loan from English runners-up Arsenal, and forwards Samu Omorodione from Spanish side Atletico Madrid and Deniz Gül, who has joined from Swedish side Hammarby, among the additions announced by Porto in the summer transfer window.
“It was a difficult and difficult negotiation. Neuén was one of the first targets identified by the club. We managed to bring the negotiations to a successful conclusion and we can enjoy his talent for Porto,” added Andre Villas-Boas, calling the defender “aggressive, prudent and with good physical dimensions” of a central player.
