What until now had been a group stage will have a different format and will be played as a single 36-team league. Each team will face eight different teams (playing four home and four away matches). The top eight teams will advance directly to the round of 16; the teams ranked ninth to twenty-fourth will contest the play-off rounds.
From the round of 16 onwards, the knockout rounds will continue.
