Porto confirm second reinforcement in last market hours

This Monday, Porto announced the signing of Thiago Djalo, who will join from Juventus on loan without an option to buy and will sign a contract until the end of this season.

“Porto’s sixth reinforcement for the 2024/25 season was already a champion of France and called up to the national team, plays as a central defender, is 1.90 meters tall and joined Invicta on loan from Juventus under an agreement without any associated costs – valid until the end of the season, which includes the Club World Cup, Thiago Djalo will wear the blue and white jersey with the number 3,” the Dragons said in a statement.

The 24-year-old centre-back joined the Bianconeri in January from French side Lille, then managed by Portuguese Paulo Fonseca, for €5.1 million plus €2.6 million in variables, but was used just once as a central defender, coming on as a substitute in the second half of last season.

“[Trago] Lots of energy, hard work, talent and lots of good things that will help the team. Right now I want to enjoy this day and tomorrow. [na terça-feira] “I’m going to start working hard to help the team with everything it needs,” he said in an interview with FC Porto’s official channels.

Thiago Djalo temporarily relinquishes the record for Italian titles (36), currently in the quartet of Serie A leaders, with the same seven points as champions Inter, Torino and Udinese, with three rounds to play, while he has played just 16 minutes in the competition over the past year and a half.

“I haven’t thought about it yet [na estreia]I think the most important thing is to think about tomorrow’s training. [na terça-feira] to help me prepare for the next game. I will feel good at the stadium because it is very beautiful and I have been following this team for a long time. I am looking forward to showing my qualities. I am ready, but of course there are things to work on and I must understand what the coach wants,” he noted.

Absent from Lille training between March and December 2023 due to a ruptured ligament in his right knee, the Portuguese Under-21 international excelled, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 102 games in which he made his senior debut and won the French league and Super Cup from 2019 to 2024.

Born in Amadora and having spent most of his training at Sporting (2013–2018), he also played for the youth team of Italian side Milan (2019) and was part of then Portuguese coach Fernando Santos’ call-up to the first team of the quinas, both in 2022, without ever making his debut.

Tiago Djalo has added to the package of additions officially announced in the summer transfer window by Porto, who last week loaned Portuguese international striker Francisco Conceição, son of former Porto coach Sergio Conceição, to Juventus in a deal with no option to buy and for a fixed fee of seven million euros plus three million in variables.

“After David Carmo left, we were looking for an option in the center of defense, and Thiago Djalo fits the desired profile, because the season will be very long, with many competitions, and we will need everyone. He is a player who brings us stability in defense, speed, aerial play and experience of playing abroad. He knows the Portuguese championship well and will be an advantage for us,” said the blue and whites’ sporting director, Spaniard Andoni Zubizarreta.

The Dragons have already welcomed Argentine centre-back Neuen Perez and midfielder Fabio Vieira on loan from Italy’s Udinese and England’s second-placed Arsenal respectively, left-back Francisco Moura arrived today from Famalicao and striker Samu Omorodion from the Spanish side. Atletico Madrid and Deniz Gul have joined from Sweden’s Hammarby.
