The Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) and Sporting de Braga denied this Sunday in press releases the aggression against a photojournalist after the match in Braga between Braga and Aroca as part of the 21st round of the I League.
According to the newspaper O Jogo, photojournalist Gonzalo Delgado was hit in the head by a Sporting de Braga fan in one of the elevators of Braga Municipal Stadium. The newspaper adds that the attacker fled the scene, but a complaint was filed against him at the PSP.
“The League of Portugal expresses words of solidarity with the photojournalist Gonzalo Delgado, who served as O JOGO at the Municipal Stadium of Braga, rejecting this and any verbal or physical aggression against members of the media that takes place in the stadiums or in the vicinity of the same,” can be read in the League’s communique.
This body also calls on supporters so that “situations like those that happened this Sunday at the Municipal Stadium of Braga and a week ago at the Alvalade Stadium with two teams from CMTV should not be repeated again, showing how it always happened. , fully prepared, together with the authorities, to find mechanisms to eradicate any kind of violent behavior in Portuguese stadiums.”
Sporting de Braga also condemned the attack on the photojournalist after the match with Arsenal – a 2-0 victory for Arsenal – and showed themselves “totally ready to cooperate with the authorities” to quickly identify the aggressor.
“SC Braga rejects any act of violence and therefore condemns the behavior confirmed in the elevator of the municipal stadium of Braga after the match against Aroca FC, as a result of a quarrel between two people. This behavior becomes especially serious when the offended person is someone who is properly accredited to perform their professional duties,” the Arsenalists write in their note.
The Braga-based club said it had already expressed “immediate support and solidarity with the injured”, adding that it had also taken “diligence to determine responsibility”.
