Futebol Clube do Porto has advanced with the payment of a deposit totaling 84 thousand euros in the legal process in which former employee Fernando Saul is demanding part of the compensation not paid due to his departure from the club.
Saul filed a claim against the division of Porto Comercial in the Commercial Court of Gaia, because he knew it could prevent him from receiving the missing amounts. By paying the amount now, Porto is ensuring that if Saul is right, there will be money to pay him.
FC Porto can therefore proceed with the division of Porto Comercial, which will result in the creation of a new company, Porto Stadco. With the release of the deposit, the completion of the club’s commercial agreement with Ithaca is also no longer at risk. This company intends to invest 65 million euros in the club in exchange for 30% of Porto Stadco’s economic rights for a period of 25 years.
Saul, who is accused of a Praetorian operation and was a fan relations officer, claims that Porto, through Porto Comercial, still owes him €79,000. A compensation of €117,000 (€193,000 before tax) was agreed, to be paid in three instalments.
The Blue and Whites paid only one of them and, despite attempts by Saul’s lawyers, no further sums were paid. A legal challenge to the division of the company was filed in the Commercial Court of Vila Nova Gaia.
