Two earthquakes, one with a magnitude of 6.4 and the other with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale, hit southern Turkey in Hatay this Monday and killed at least three people, Bloomberg reported.
There is also a record of 213 injured people who were taken to hospital, interior minister Suleyman Soylu said. The earthquake, which was felt in Syria, Egypt and Lebanon, destroyed several buildings.
In Syria, more than 130 people were also injured in rebel-occupied areas in the north-west of the country. The aftershocks caused injuries of varying severity and caused separate landslides in opposition-controlled areas in the provinces of Idlib and Aleppo, in the north-west, the rescuers of the rebel zones in Syria, the White Helmets, advanced.
“Our teams are working to transport the injured to hospitals, inspect the affected areas and clear debris to open roads for pedestrians and ambulances,” the rescuers explained.
Last Saturday, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale was already felt in Turkey.
On February 6, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey and Syria, leaving a massive trail of destruction in its wake.
