This Saturday, Sampdoria denounced threats against their directors after a parcel with a pig’s head inside and a threatening message was found in front of the club’s headquarters in Genoa.
According to the Italian press, namely the ANSA agency and the newspaper La Repubblica, the aforementioned anonymous report was directly directed against former president Massimo Ferrero, who still owns Sampdoria, and current vice president Antonio Romei.
This episode comes at a time of a very difficult season for Sampdoria, currently 19th in Serie A, in the relegation zone, and when the club recently had to make an agreement with its players to avoid sporting sanctions, after delaying the payment of a fine . wage.
In a statement, Sampdoria expressed “deep outrage” at what it considers a “serious act of intimidation” following the incident that took place this morning at the club’s headquarters.
“An attack on a board member is an attack on everyone,” the club said, warning of the “delicate phase” it is going through while awaiting “transition to new ownership.”
Current owner Massimo Ferrero was forced to step down as president in December 2021 after being arrested in a fraudulent bankruptcy process as he prepared to sell the club, according to various media outlets.
The Italian League also expressed its “solidarity” with Sampdoria for being “the target of a regrettable episode that must be condemned in the strongest terms”.
“Such obscene gestures are unacceptable, as they cast a shadow on the image of those who love sports and football. These threats cannot and should not have a place, ”the message sent to the press says.
