Portuguese driver António Felix da Costa (Porsche) won the Cape Town E-prix of the Formula E World Championship this Saturday, a competition for electric vehicles.
The driver from Cascais, who changed his DS to a German brand this year, finished the race in a time of 42.25.03 minutes, leaving second place Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne (DS) in second place, 0.281 seconds, with the New Zealander. Nick Cassidy (Envision) is third with 1808 points.
Thus, Félix da Costa added his first win of the season to the fifth contested race after starting from 11th on the grid.
“It’s a big load off my shoulders,” he said at the end of the race.
Visibly excited after the race, the Portuguese rider thanked those who supported him.
“I knew it would be difficult. A strategy was needed, as a path had to be opened, and energy management was important. Jean is hard to overtake, but it was fair. When I missed the attack mode, I thought I would have to settle for second place, but decided to attack,” he concluded.
The Portuguese took the lead with six laps to go, overtaking Nick Cassidy, but made the mistake of trying to activate “attack mode”. [permite potência extra] and Vergne overtook him.
The Race Directorate added two laps to the race due to the intervention of the safety car.
Félix da Costa regained the lead two laps from the checkered flag, securing his first win of the season and his first win with Porsche, eighth in Formula E.
With these results, the Portuguese driver moved up to fourth place in the championship with 46 points, 34 points behind German leader Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche), who did not score.
The next stage will take place in Sao Paulo (Brazil) on March 25.
