Workers at TVI, the channel of the Media Capital group, are on strike on March 15 following a decision made Wednesday in a plenary session and “unanimously,” several journalists told Lusa.
On February 9, Queluz station workers approved in plenary session a 24-hour strike notice for March 8, in which they demanded an 8% increase in the minimum wage for everyone.
This Wednesday, in a plenary session, the administration’s proposal was rejected by the workers and a strike was called on March 15, confirmed by Lusa Rolando Santos of the Workers’ Commission (CT).
During the first plenary session, CT TVI stated that 8% was “the minimum acceptable level as it covers the rate of inflation”.
Other requirements include updating the food subsidy to the maximum allowed by law, providing 25 days of annual leave, and other matters related to the career plan.
At the time, CT stated that it would only withdraw if this requirements booklet was 100% approved.
A day later, on 10 February, the President of the Republic warned that only with “strong social communication” could “strong democracy” be guaranteed, commenting on the strike announcement on TVI and the “very difficult” stage in which journalism is crossing.
“I have been saying for many years that the media is going through a very difficult social and economic phase of great instability, and strong media are needed for a strong democracy. If the media is not strong, democracy is not strong.” , — stressed Marcelo Rebelo de Souza.
