Fenprof highlights ‘extreme’ commitment to strike despite minimal ‘illegal’ services

The general secretary of the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) said this Friday that the participation in the teachers’ strike is “extraordinary” as only minimal services are performed, which the union organization classifies as “forced labor” and “illegal”. .

“Given what’s going on, teachers are standing at the door and those who are going to work are those who are being forced into forced labor, this forced labor is a way the government has found to try and lessen the impact of the strike. What can I say?” that, just like yesterday, teachers in general provide only minimal services, which, in our opinion, are illegal, and the fight in the courts has already begun,” said Mario Nogueira Luce after visiting with teachers at the door of the main 2.3 schools in Marras, in Leiria.

Non-teaching workers from across the country and school teachers in districts south of Leiria are on strike this Friday demanding better working conditions and wages, as well as the creation of special professions.

For teachers, a two-day strike continues, announced by the platform of nine trade union organizations, including the national federations of teachers (Fenprof) and education (FNE), the most representative in the sector.

According to Fenprof’s general secretary, some schools are introducing minimum services beyond what the ordinance that supports them defines.

“It is curious that the Ministry, when surveying the strike, sent out to schools a filled site where minimum services are not taken into account. It considers minimum services not a strike, which is not true, since teachers perform minimum services and as soon as they complete them, they stop working and go on strike. Wrong to conduct the survey in such a way, considering that those who are on minimum services are not on strike, which is not right,” said Mario Nogueira.

Schools must provide minimum services set on Monday by an arbitration court that ruled that the stoppage of teachers “cannot be seen as just a one-day strike that will only cause the normal and legal disturbance that any strike always causes.” but rather as “another strike in the sum of strikes that as a whole already threaten to jeopardize the right to education”.

According to the decision, teachers must guarantee three hours of classes in preschool and 1st cycle, as well as three daily classroom periods in 2nd and 3rd cycles and secondary education, to guarantee weekly coverage of various disciplines. .

Following the arbitration board’s decision, nine trade union organizations announced that they would jointly file a lawsuit against minimum services.

This Friday, Mario Nogueira told Lusa that the reasons for the teachers’ struggles continue: two demonstrations in Lisbon and Porto are already scheduled for Saturday to challenge the competition regime that is “on the table”.

“Because we do not agree, we have already requested additional talks on the 9th by 10:30 am at the Ministry of Education. We are going to do everything to change the most negative points and what are the red lines that the Ministry knows from the first hour and does not want to give up, but also overcoming obligations, expelling many teachers for hundreds of kilometers, work experience, vacancies and certification quotas,” he said. .
