Estoril Golf Club President Miguel Soares Franco questioned Cascais Mayor Carlos Carreiras for stating at a municipal meeting that “an established golf club does not exist.” Club members demand an apology from the mayor.
In a letter to which cm had access, it is mentioned that Carlos Carreira referred to the fact that “the municipality of Cascais should not give preference to a group of citizens who use this field, which is a private sphere, for which they pay much less than they pay in any area.” Carlos Carreiras’ statements were made after the mayor was questioned about a real estate project to be carried out in the said area.
In a letter, Miguel Soares Franco explains to the mayor that the club was legally established in October 1945, although it was founded in 1929. The club also reject pressure on the mayor and the use of the field at a low cost.
ABOUT cm tried to hear from the mayor of Cascais and the president of the Clube de Golf do Estoril, but got no answer.
