Enough wants the ombudsman to intervene in identifying vacant real estate

The Chega leader asked on Monday for an ombudsman to intervene in a government measure that would require companies providing essential services to report vacant property to municipalities every year, considering it “pidesca”.

At a press conference at Cheg’s national headquarters, André Ventura criticized a government measure, reported by the Público newspaper on Monday, that would require companies involved in water, gas, electricity or telecommunications to inform municipalities annually of properties deemed invalid. vacant.

“This is a despicable intention. Making service providers condemn houses that are empty or low activity is or is on par with the worst nefarious acts we have ever had in Portugal,” he defended.

The Chega leader said he “strongly and firmly believes that the illegality and unconstitutionality” of the measure, which is why his party has asked Ombudsman Maria Luzia Amaral and the National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD) to intervene.

“We are asking the Ombudsman and the CNPD to respond vigorously to this government’s intention to ask companies that are service providers that are subject to data protection regulations to maintain secrecy and confidentiality obligations to report to the government on the activities of these houses,” he said.

In the same vein, Ventura said he would also require an ombudsman to intervene on a measure that states that local housing licenses will be reviewed in 2030, after which they will be assessed every five years.

“It is inconceivable that someone who three years ago, four or five years ago made an authorized investment, executed, regulated by law, to restore or restore real estate, could see the license for this activity be canceled without any compensation, which is really compensates for the investments he made”, defended.

In addition to these requests to intervene with Ombudsman Andre Ventura, he also announced at this press conference that Chega will be asking Housing Minister Marina Gonçalves 30 questions about the More Housing package.

Among the questions that Chega decided to send to the ministry, Andre Ventura singled out questions related to the measure establishing the compulsory lease of empty houses.

According to André Ventura, the party asked Marina Gonçalves how many vacant buildings the state has, when they will go on the market, and whether they will be prioritized in terms of forced leasing.

“From Chega’s point of view, it makes no sense to put private real estate up for sale when there is no state property on the market yet,” he said.

Ventura also said Chega also wants to know what research and what model the government is basing on when putting together the “More Housing” package, saying his party has not found a single European country to do the same.

The Chega leader said the 30 questions sent to Marina Gonçalves would be the “last way” before his party decides to mandatory call the housing minister for a parliamentary hearing.

“If [as respostas] If these 30 questions are not satisfied, then we will force the Minister of Housing to come to Parliament to give these clarifications before discussing the proposal,” he said.
