The Minister of National Defense said on Wednesday that the three Leopard 02 A6 tanks that Portugal provided to Ukraine are already in Germany and ready to go to Ukrainian territory by the end of the month.
“I can immediately inform you that the three Leopard 02 A6 tanks that we handed over to Ukraine are already in Germany and are in good combat condition, they are being finalized and will be delivered by the end of the year along with 18 German tanks. Months,” supported Helena Carreiras.
The minister spoke shortly before the start of an informal meeting of European Union (EU) defense ministers organized by the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU in Stockholm.
Helena Carreiras added that at today’s meeting “a lot of attention will be paid to supporting Ukraine.”
“We will once again analyze the circumstances on the ground and discuss how we can better and faster support Ukraine, namely in the issue of ammunition supplies.”
Shortly before the speech of the Minister of Defense of Portugal to journalists, the Ukrainian colleague Oleksiy Reznikov, invited to participate in the meeting, requested a million large-caliber ammunition with installments “from 90,000 to 100,000 per month.”
The request of the Ukrainian official was supported by Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, who added that the supply of one million ammunition would cost about four billion euros.
When asked about these statements, the Secretary of Defense asked for caution.
