Six continental counties are under yellow warning due to rain

The areas of Viseu, Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro and Braga are under a yellow warning this Wednesday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), due to the forecast for periods of heavy rain.

This notice will be in effect from 09:00 to 15:00 this Wednesday.

The areas of Braga, Aveiro, Viana do Castelo and Porto are again under yellow warning from 06:00 to 12:00 on Thursday due to predicted showers, sometimes heavy, which can be hail and accompanied by thunderstorms.

IPMA has also issued a yellow warning for the areas of Viana do Castelo, Porto, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga due to rough seas, with waves from the west of 4 to 4.5 meters expected from 12:00 on Thursday on Friday. and 12:00 on Friday.

Due to rough seas, the bays of Caminha, Esposende, Vila Praia de Ankara, Povoa do Varzim, Vila do Conde and Ericeira are closed to navigation.

According to data available on the Navy’s website, the Figueira da Foz bar is for ships under 11 meters in length.

The eastern group (San Miguel and Santa Maria) of the Azores is also under a yellow warning due to rough seas until 21:00 this Wednesday, and the central group (Terceira, Graciosa, Faial, Pico and São Jorge) due to strong wind. from 09:00 to 18:00.

A yellow warning, the least severe, is issued by the IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain weather-dependent activities.

The forecast for rain and rough seas prompted the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Administration (ANEPC) to issue a warning to the public on Tuesday about worsening weather conditions.

In a note, ANEPC based on information from IPMA warns of precipitation forecast for the entire area until the end of Thursday morning.

In connection with the predicted weather scenario, the civil defense warns of the possibility of flooding of urban areas caused by the accumulation of rainwater due to clogging of drainage systems, as well as the occurrence of floods potentiated by the overflow of the channel of some watercourses, rivers and streams.

The ANEPC also warns against dragging loose objects onto the roadway or tearing off movable or loose structures due to high winds, which could cause accidents with moving vehicles or bystanders on a public road.

It also warns you to take special care while driving due to slippery surfaces and possible formation of water layers.
