March 8 was International Women’s Day, a date adopted by the United Nations (UN) in 1975 to commemorate the social, political and economic achievements of women. In the middle of the 21st century, it is still common to hear reports that you are belittled in society and confronted with inferiority in relation to the male sex. Every day there are constant battles to overcome. Increasingly, society is becoming aware of the need to combat the idea of women as the “weaker sex”. In addition, Women’s Day turns out to be such a special date and celebrities in Portugal celebrate the occasion in a variety of ways. There were those who stripped, posted pictures in their underwear, or preferred to leave a message to victims of domestic violence, while others in turn left their words on social media, through posts. Barbara Bandeira, Laura Figueiredo, Sofia Ribeiro, Barbara Guimarães, Fatima Lopez and Andrea Rodriguez are some of the names that left their message on Women’s Day. Sofia Ribeiro: “We need to unite. I believe that the steps will be longer with this.”
Barbara Guimarães: “We must continue to impose ourselves and we must continue the daily struggle for equality”
Fatima Lopez: “Look at us with the dignity we deserve. I am a woman every day
Andrea Rodriguez: “Gender differences are still far away”
