10 years of CMTV through the eyes of those who make it

In four days, journalist Diogo Carreira and reporter Vasco Candido covered more than two thousand kilometers of roads for a special reason: to meet with professionals from CMTV scattered across the country, get to know their daily lives, voice their stories, emotions and motives. A series of reports, some 40 in total, will be shown throughout the month of March to celebrate the channel’s tenth anniversary on the 17th.

first and closer
Television close to the Portuguese can only be built by being as close as possible to them. This has always been the goal CMTV, from the day it became known to the public, exactly ten years ago, with an introductory broadcast made from the city of Viseu, which includes a symbolic broadcast of the birth of a child. Ten years have passed, crowned with many successes, exponential audience growth (January and February recorded the best results compared to the same periods of previous years), never returning to the roots. So it’s time to talk about the protagonists of this daily commitment, which CMTV supports for a decade with its viewers.

“The challenge we set ourselves was to accept the reality CMTV who saw her for ten years. And we understand that our reporters know, feel and know by heart the real life of the Portuguese. Their traditions, their problems, and even the feelings they carry,” journalist Diogo Carreira, the author of most of these reports, begins with an explanation.

“The main difference between our journalists and CMTV,” says Diogo Carreira.

“It was one of the most beautiful things I have done and experienced in these ten years. CMTV. Our colleagues from delegations scattered around the country followed many stories, they all remember local events that had a big impact on them,” recalls Diogo Carreira.

humanity on earth
And suffering, it turns out, is also part of the bones of this craft. “As journalists, we have to keep a certain distance from reality, a certain coldness, but people do not realize how often our reporters are also offended by these stories, which affect them equally. “We are people too, we also have a ‘family’,” I was told over and over again in these reports. And it is the humanity of our journalists that makes the difference in CMTV. We have the most humane journalists,” admits a journalist who dealt with these colleagues “at a distance” ten years ago, and now has the opportunity to get to know their reality better. “But in the end, we feel that although we are not physically close, we know each other very well,” he concludes.

more surprises
There are many other surprises in store for viewers throughout this anniversary month (and especially on the 17th), including new graphics, a new commemorative logo and other special reports designed to show how the news reaches the audience. CMTV and how they arrive, better and first, at the house of the Portuguese.

Pedro Pacheco from Leiria is a real “image ninja”. In addition to being a photojournalist, he is also a camera operator, often doing both at the same time: “Capturing an event in motion is not at all the same as photographing, but my goal is the same: to always offer the best image.”

Isabelle Jordao, journalist CMTV in Leiria every year it provides coverage for the pilgrimage to Fatima. “It still excites me to this day to be with people in the Sanctuary or on the path they are on, for the faith they carry with them,” he admits.

Viseu – home CMTV. It was from here that the first broadcast of the channel was conducted and life was celebrated. José Luis Oliveira knows this reality well: CMTV is with the people. We don’t just talk… we’re really close to people.”
