Who is Mimicat and what does the translator who will represent Portugal at Eurovision sing?

Mimicat became the winner of the Song Festival and will represent Portugal at Eurovision this year. The 38-year-old singer recorded her first album at the age of nine, and at 15 she made her debut on the stages of the Festival da Canção.

Marisa Mena was born in Coimbra 38 years ago and became Mimicat in 2014 when she released her first album with this artistic title. At just 9 years old he recorded his first album, and at the age of 15 under the name “Izamena” he first took part in a competition that determines the representative of Portugal in the largest competition in European music.

The artist inspired by Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles or Jill Scott released her first album called Mimicat “For You” in 2014. The album included the single “Tell Me Why”. This launch brought the Conimbricense tour through Brazil.

Two years later, Mimicat returns to work on new singles that make up the second album, released in 2017. “Stay Strong” was one of the singer-songwriter’s songs with Anglo-Saxon soul pop influences.

It wasn’t until 2019 that Coimbra debuted in Portuguese. The song was released in 2019 when Marisa was already pregnant.

The singer-songwriter, who will release a new album after Eurovision, is the great hope of the Portuguese to repeat in Ukraine the feat of Salvador Sobral, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017.

This year, despite the fact that Ukraine won the contest last year, the Eurovision final will take place in Liverpool from 9 to 13 May.
