Surne Bilbao Basket beat Igokea M:tel 80-85 during his visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina this Wednesday, November 2. After this victory in the third day of the group stage of the Champions Leaguethe basque team reinforces its leadership in group D with three games won in the first three days. Furthermore, his rivals Nymburk, Bahçeseir and Igokea only add one victory each.

The first quarter was even. Both teams started the match with success and strong defense. Equality prevailed in the opening minutes, but from the tie at thirteen (13-13), the local team prevailed and opened a gap on the scoreboard (24-18). Bilbao Basket reacted in the final minutes of the opening quarter and reduced their deficit to two points (26-24).

The locals came out on the field better in the second quarter and distanced themselves again (30-24 and 36-30). It was difficult for Bilbao Basket to pick up the rhythm and take the measure of their rival, but they knew how to pull themselves together and tied the match (36-36) in the middle of the fourth. Later, Igokea achieved a six-point lead (47-41) with less than two minutes to go before halftime. With a good minute and a half, the Basque team managed to come back and get ahead in the electronics (47-48) fifteen seconds into the break, but Igokea scored a basket almost at the last moment and arrived with a point advantage at the break (49-48).

The break came in handy for a Surne Bilbao Basket team that took to the field more solidly in the third quarter. Jaume Ponsarnau’s men went ahead on the scoreboard (53-56), the local team tied (56-56), but the Basque team continued to dominate, imposed their law, and reached the last quarter with a six-point lead (66-72).

The local team got off to a better start in the decisive fourth quarter and closed the gap to within two points (72-74). However, Bilbao Basket did not get nervous, they knew how to manage the timing of the match, they were superior to the rival both in defense and attack, and although Igokea came within four points in the final stretch, Surne Bilbao Basket took the victory (80-85).
