The President of the Republic congratulated coach Abel Ferreira on his victory in the Brazilian Football Championship

President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa this Wednesday congratulated the Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira, who became the Brazilian football champion in the service of Palmeiras.

“Tonight, the President of the Republic congratulated Abel Ferreira, the Portuguese coach of Palmeiras, who has just won the Brasileirão, the Brazilian football championship, by telephone,” the administration of the President of the Republic said in a statement.

“Palmeiras” under the leadership of the Portuguese Abel Ferreira today for the 11th time became the champion of Brazil in football, taking advantage of the defeat of “Internacional” from “America Mineiro” (0:1) in the match of the 35th round.

Porto Alegre needed to win to continue in the title race but didn’t, saving 64 points to Palmeiras’ 74 with four games to play.

Palmeiras, who have consolidated their lead in the Brasileirão rankings – three titles more than Santos – added their sixth trophy under Abel Ferreira and a third in 2022 after victories in the South American Super Cup and Paulistao.

Prior to this, the 43-year-old Portuguese coach, who arrived at the São Paulo club at the end of October 2020, had already won the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Brazil twice.
