Mozambique with some of the equipment to start voter registration on April 20

Mozambique has already received more than 40% of the equipment for voter registration, which will begin in about a month, in connection with the October 11 municipal elections, a National Electoral Commission (CNE) spokesman told Lusa today.

“We already have more than 40% of the voter registration materials, and a plane with additional equipment will arrive in the next few days,” CNE spokesman Paulo Quinica said, reviewing the status of the process.

Registration for municipal elections begins on April 20 and ends on June 3 and lasts 45 days.

According to him, this year’s voting budget is more than 14.8 billion meticais (204.7 million euros).

The Center for Public Integrity (CIP), a Mozambican non-governmental organization (NGO), warned of a shortfall in the electoral budget, but a spokesman denied it.

The government has allocated the necessary funds for the voter registration process, and operations are being funded without delay, stressed Paulo Quinica.

Mozambique is entering a new electoral cycle this year with municipal elections in October and general elections in 2024.
