Conductor, composer and musician João da Silva Cascau, who was born in Figueira da Foz, Coimbra district, died this Wednesday at the age of 83, António Jorge Le, director of the newspaper O Figueirense, told Lusa.
Born in Figueira da Foz, Silva Cascau was a composer, musician and conductor who worked for many years at the Casino da Figueira, being the musical organizer of the Gala dos Pequenos Cantores, an event for which he signed the arrangements, the same source stressed.
Silva Cascao was part of Maestro Santos Rosa’s orchestra and traveled the world as a pianist, particularly in Rhodesia, where he lived, before starting his own orchestra, he added.
The maestro, who has “Nossa Senhora do Fado”, recorded by Ricardo Barreto as one of his most famous songs, has been honored by the municipality of Figueira da Foz.
The funeral of Joao da Silva Cascau will take place this Thursday at 14:00 at the Igreja da Ordem Terceira in Figueira da Foz.
