The road between Montargil in the municipality of Ponte de Sor (Portalegre) and Cusu in Coruce (Santaren) has already been reopened to traffic after a collision between a truck and a motorcycle, a civil protection source said today.
Contacting the Lusa agency, a source from the Alto Alentejo sub-regional emergency and civil protection department said that the municipal road 1061 (EM1061) in the Montargil area reopened to traffic at 11:40.
The same source said that two seriously injured from the incident were airlifted by the National Institute for Emergency Medicine (INEM) to a hospital in Lisbon.
The incident involving a heavy vehicle and a motorcycle was reported to firefighters at 7:56 am, the same source added.
Lusa was also contacted by a source from the GNR Territorial Command in Portalegre, adding that a 40-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both of foreign nationality, were seriously injured.
According to a GNR source, EM1061 was “completely banned” from its intersection with National Road 2 (EN2) in the Montargil area and to National Road 251 (EN251) in the Couso area.
The relief operations involved 29 operators assisted by nine vehicles and an INEM helicopter.
