The Loures PSP unit, which stretches between the municipalities of Loures and Torres Vedras, is responsible for the security of hundreds of thousands of people and will play a key role in the World Youth Day (WYD) security operation that this year will take place in Portugal since this morning There are only four patrol cars on the road.
According to a complaint from the Independent Union of PSP Agents (SIAP) sent to cmpolice stations in Sacavema, Torres Vedras, Loures and Odivelas only circulate cars.
However, the SIAP notes that the police stations serving these last two locations “operate on vehicles provided by parish councils.”
The list of faults is long. Thus, the CM learned that the police stations of São João da Taglia, Camarate, Pontinha, Canesas and Santo António dos Cavaleiros, which lost a car this Friday morning due to tire problems, have already lost cars. they worked with.
In addition, Loures’ Rapid Response Teams and Odivelas’ Criminal Investigation Squadron (whose car lost its sirens) have no means of transportation.
Due to what it classifies as an “emergency,” the SIAP has already alerted the PSP Lisbon Command, which oversees the Loures department, and has also issued invitations to the Mayors of Loures and Odivelas to denounce the serious security issue.
“The safety of the agents who are answering the calls is also at stake as they are asking for support and this cannot be immediately due to the lack of vehicles,” said Carlos Torres, president of SIAP.
It should be recalled that the Loures unit will play a decisive role in the WDM security operation, as it is on its territory that the final mass of the event will be held under the presidency of Pope Francis.
It should also be noted that, according to the PSP, the Loures unit is a national police unit that patrols the most vulnerable urban areas.
