Absent from the last two games of FC Porto due to injury, Pepe was released this Sunday from the national team, which starts preparations for Euro 2024 qualification against Liechtenstein and Luxembourg from Monday. Despite not having a single player on the squad, Roberto Martinez will not name a replacement for Porto’s veteran defender.
Here is a note from FPF:
“The center will not be at the start of the qualifying stage of Euro’24
Pepe has been sacked from the training camp that the national A team is starting this afternoon in Cidade do Futebol to prepare for the double journey that marks the start of the European Championship qualifying stage to be held in Germany in 2024.
Pepe was deemed unavailable by the FPF’s health and performance department and was therefore removed from the draft.
Portugal will play Liechtenstein on Thursday in Alvalada and on Sunday they will play Luxembourg.”
