PS advisers this Monday denounced the existence of more than a dozen schools in Braga “full of problems” such as buckets to catch the rain or teachers borrowing heaters from home to fight the cold.
At a two-week meeting of the executive, socialist adviser Arthur Feillot cited “very humiliating” situations and accused the executive of only intervening “to plug the hole, cover up the problem and solve it in the short term.”
“There is no coherent logic of planned interventions,” he said.
In response, education adviser Carla Sepúlveda said that most are “aware” of the problems and that “the most important and urgent” interventions are planned so that schools can reopen at the start of the next school year. “in safety”.
He also recalled that last winter was “very harsh” and worsened conditions in some schools, forcing urgent intervention in the most serious situations.
Socialists cited situations such as having to put up buckets to collect rainwater, plastic to keep water from falling off the table, problems with heating, window frames with very little caulking, and teachers taking heaters or radiators out of the house to heat rooms.
They also denounced the existence of schools, namely the Cathedral, with wooden floors “all raised” and where there is a “danger of electric shock” due to moisture penetrating the walls.
“It’s completely surreal, and it’s not about one or two schools, but about a dozen, and all are full of problems,” Artur Fejo said, adding that this is a reality that has been fixed “for more than six or seven years.” “.
According to the adviser, most schools have problems with the roof, so the work should be carried out “in good weather.”
“It should start now, namely at school stops, and we see that there are no planned interventions, everything will remain,” he criticized.
The Cultural Adviser objected that activities were planned, focusing in particular on heating and kitchens.
The rest will be held “within capacity” to allow schools to “open safely” at the start of the next school year.
