A 49-year-old man has been taken into custody on “severe charges” of various crimes involving thefts inside vehicles in Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores, PSP reported this Thursday.
According to the PSP Regional Command, one of the alleged thefts took place “in a car park located near one of the main shopping malls in Ponta Delgada”, with the suspect “identified and apprehended” by the police “a few days later”. moments.”
The PSP press release adds that when the police approached the suspect, “several items were immediately discovered and seized that pointed to him not only as the material culprit of this crime,” but also linked him “with another criminal offense committed under identical circumstances. , in another vehicle” parked in the same area of the city.
In all the “stolen cars” the man resorted to “glass breaking”.
The PSP adds that the diligence of the PSP investigators also made it possible to “bind and charge the defendant as the author of two other thefts committed inside vehicles” that took place in different areas of the municipality of Ponta Delgada.
One of these thefts took place in the parish of San Pedro and the other took place in a parking lot inside an apartment building located in the parish of Covoada “with the participation of a suspect who by that time had already been identified as an arguida”.
The police also say that the defendant already has “corresponding convictions for committing illegal acts of the same nature and others, even more serious.”
He was present at the first judicial interrogation and “the most serious measure of restraint was applied to him – pre-trial detention.”
