When is Grand National 2023? Date, time, TV channels and what we know about runners and riders

The most famous horse racing in the world is just around the corner, and the Grand National will take place at Aintree Racecourse on Saturday, April 15th.

Noble Yates won the National last year under amateur jockey Sam Whaley-Cohen, becoming the first seven-year-old to do so since the Bogskar in 1940 and one of the first favorites to do so again.

If purebreds in Ireland succeed it will be after Tiger Roll (2018 and 2019), Red Rum (1973 and 1974), Reynoldstown (1935 and 1936) and The Colonel (1869 and 1870).

Corach Rambler also has a lot of support and is even a favorite according to some bookmakers, while Gaillard Du Mesnil also has a lot of fans. In total, 40 horses and jockeys will take part in the race, the full list of which has not yet been published.

In addition to the prestige of winning the National, there is also significant prize money at stake. The winners take home a £561,300 jackpot of which £211,110 is reserved for second place and £105,000 for third place. In total, over £1 million in prize money will be awarded from 1st to 10th place.

As has become the norm, this year’s Grand National starts at approximately 5:15 pm. Traditionally, the race started at 16:00, but was postponed to avoid collisions with other sporting events.

A record 8.8 million people in the UK tuned in to see Rachel Blackmore become the first jockey to win the race in 2021, while an audience of over 500 million is expected worldwide.
