Paul Espargaro to undergo additional tests at Faro Hospital

Angel Kart, Medical Director of MotoGP, made the first update on the condition of Espargaro, who suffered a chest and back injury while training for the first race of the World Championship of Speed ​​Motorsport, stressing that he will undergo a series of tests. to determine the extent of damage.

Confirming that Espargaro is “conscious, alert and responding well”, Ángel Kart described the condition as “a severe accident that left him with multiple injuries”.

“To determine the extent, he will need to undergo a deeper examination at the Faro hospital, in particular his spine,” the doctor explained, adding: “His oxygen level is good, but he has a very serious bruised lung. significant, the extent of which we will have to confirm with computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging at Faro Hospital.”

Kart also explained that Espargaro is “slightly sedated from the painkillers” and he can move his feet, legs and arms just fine, so “there is no reason to fear any permanent spinal injury.”

The accident occurred about 14 minutes before the end of the second free practice of the Portuguese Grand Prix at the International circuit in the Algarve. After being treated on the track, Espargaro was taken by ambulance to the track’s medical center and then taken by helicopter to the Faro hospital.
