Former Formula 1 champion and father-in-law of Max Verstappen Nelson Piquet has been fined €883,000 for making racist and homophobic slurs against British driver Lewis Hamilton.
Piqué’s statements were made on a Brazilian motorsports podcast. “Little Negro [Lewis Hamilton] parked the car and didn’t leave [desviar]. The little black guy got out of the car because the two cars couldn’t pass at that turn. It was a joke,” commented the former pilot.
A comment that appeared later showed that the Brazilian used racist and homophobic language. The complaint was filed by four human rights groups, the portal reports. motorsport.
Piqué has already reacted to allegations of racism last year. “I strongly condemn any suggestion that this word was used by me to humiliate the driver because of his skin color. I apologize to everyone affected by this, including Lewis. [Hamilton]who is an incredible driver,” he said.
