Blatter: Choosing Qatar to host World Cup was a mistake

The start of the 2022 World Cup is scheduled for the 20th, and criticism of the competitions held in Qatar has intensified. The fact is that during the awarding of the tournament, Sepp Blatter, the then president of FIFA, supported the decision, which he now considers a “mistake”.

“Football and the World Cup are too big for that. It was the wrong choice and I was responsible for that as FIFA President at the time,” the former manager told the Swiss media group Tamedia, specifying that the original plan was to assign the 2018 World Cup to Russia and 2022 year to the USA. “It would be a gesture of peace if these two political opponents organized the World Cup one after the other,” he concluded.
